Renault Clio III

For 2009, the Clio III gets a mid-life makeover that brings it in line with Renault's latest models and in particular the Megane plus a new GT sport version that promises to close the gap between the standard models and the 197-horsepower Clio RS.

Evidently inspired from the latest Megane, the 2009 Clio's styling has been updated with a new front design featuring a slim grille that harks back at the first generation model of the early 1990s, reshaped headlamps and a broad grille in the lower part of the new front bumper. At the rear-end, the facelifted Clio is distinguished by the redesigned tail lamps and the newly styled bumper which now incorporates the reversing lights and foglamps.

I've been having a long standing debate with myself: Which car would be more fun to play with? A relatively cheap to run, but hardly exclusive Japanese, or a sophisticated, complicated (albeit sometimes too complicated for its own good) and classy German. It's funny how this was also the case in World War II. The Panzer tanks used by the Nazis were very efficient killers with the latest technology but were extremely expensive to produce and maintain, whereas their simpler Japanese counterparts were much easier to run.

We don't see many tuned German cars on the road, especially here in Malaysia, as BMW's and Mercs are, well, way out of reach for many people. Japanese cars on the other hand are a dime a dozen. I must confess that my own ignorance has led me to believe that German cars just aren't tuneable, due to the simple fact that there just aren't as many tuned BMW's as there are Nissans, Hondas, Toyotas and Mazdas. Take into account that a typical BMW costs twice as much as its Japanese counterpart and the higher cost of tuning parts and higher running costs; it's quite easy to see why most people stand firmly on the Japanese side of the fence.

Costs of modifications aside, you'd be hard pressed to fault the result of a nicely done up Beemer. A fully done-up Evo or Skyline just doesn't have the same visual clout as a Beemer, especially Beemers like this Motorsport Division demo car. An Evo with a full Varis bodykit may look fierce and intimidating, but a fully done up BMW will have the same intimidation level as the Evo, but it does it with so much more class.


Think of a street thug with piercings and tattoos covering his arms, brandishing a rusty blood-stained parang, dressed in tight jeans and a leather jacket (the Evo), standing next to a clean shaven man dressed in a white suit, with greased hair combed all the way back, gold chains, toothpick in his mouth and a silver-plated Colt M1911A handgun with ivory grip inserts and intricate engravings along the length of the barrel, resting in his left hand (the Beemer). Yeah, now you get the idea don't you?

BMW are known for making some of the world's best automotive engines. The E46 M3 S54B32 3.2 litre engine won numerous awards for its smoothness, high power output and all round awesomeness. It's good to know that BMW has passed on some of the M3's engine DNA to its lesser siblings such as the 2-litre straight-six engine which resides in this pearl white E46. In stock form, the M52B20-T produces a barely adequate 150bhp. That's hardly enough to power to propel this 3-series BMW which weighs around 1500kg.

Honda was one of the sponsore for hot baloon festival at Cha'teux Switzerland. Accord Type S and Civic Coupe Tpye R as the most interesting among others. You know, gas in Switzerland is less taxed than in neighboring Italy or France. Many people who live near the border of these countries come to Switzerland to fill their tanks. Gas prices follow fluctuations in crude oil prices, but generally remain in the 1.10 to 1.40 CHF/liter range. In 1986, the “S” evolved into the Civic Si with added interior and exterior features along with suspension upgrades.

The 1988 to 1991 Civic Si Hatchback captured the attention of a growing number of sport compact-car enthusiasts, just as the market was beginning to emerge in the U.S.

Beginning in 1992, Civic Si Hatchback models incorporated Honda’s famed VTEC® engine technology.

Adding an aggressive dimension of performance to the Civic Si Sedan, the inspired Mugen Civic Si Sedan brings "Formula Sport" concept to sports car enthusiast's reality.

Co-developed by Honda and Mugen, the Civic Mugen Si Sedan sports a Twin-Ring Motegi track-tuned suspension, aerodynamic body styling and a performance exhaust system.

The suspension lowers the vehicle by 15 mm with highly aggressive spring and damper tuning for enhanced handling performance. The full-vehicle aero-package adds a front spoiler and sports grille, side spoilers, a rear diffuser and an adjustable rear wing. The lightweight, Mugen –forged aluminum wheels measure 18 x 7.5 inches and include high-performance 215/40R18 rubber.

Honda produced a limited release of 1,000 Civic Si Mugen models. Honda lovers, rev your engines and get highway ready, because Honda has set the Mugen free.

The concept signals the switch to rear-wheel drive for the Coupe, known as Tiburon in the States. It’s just been unveiled at the LA Auto Show and will go on sale in the US in the spring of 2009, though the car has already been scooped undisguised in customer clinics, and we’ve spied it with our own cameras in production-ready form.
The good news is this latest, rear-drive iteration of the Coupe is also coming to the UK. So it could be adding sharper dynamics to the Coupe's recipe of Italianate looks and bargain prices.
